Six Finger Satellite "Ruin Theory" Double LP

$32.00

Limited Appeal Records is thrilled to at long last announce the release
of the Six Finger Satellite archival collection Ruin Theory (LA 38).
This crucial release is now available for purchase at $32.

Record one of Ruin Theory comprises the complete 1997 full band
studio demos for what would become Six Finger Satellite’s 1998
magnum opus Law of Ruins. These ferocious performances, recorded
live without overdubs, represent what this material sounded like as it
was being developed in concert. At the time, when then-new songs
such as “New Kind of Rat” and “Winds of Time” (aka “Race Against
Space”) were slotted between, say, “Parlour Games” and “The Greatest
Hit”, they tended to jolt and/or baffle audiences. However, once the
Law of Ruins material became more firmly embedded and encoded
within the group’s sets, the songs forged the perfect soundtrack for a
world speeding towards the millennium with uncertainty and unease.
There is even firm evidence that “Glitter” (aka “Sea of Tranquility”)
could cause certain fans to burst into tears.
Record two of Ruin Theory presents Dark Interlude, a “megamix” of
the raw and unedited 1998 session that sourced the link tracks and
select songs such as “The Divine Invasion” (aka “The White
Visitation”) - never performed live - that were also included on Law of
Ruins. You have heard all but two of these tracks before, but not like
this, nor presented in this form.
Rounding out the collection are two unreleased songs that would have
fit dandily on the final album. Extracted from rehearsal tapes, they are
finally presented here for your listening pleasure.
As Limited Appeal previously did with our Black Pus release 4: All
Aboard The Magic Pus (LA 07), we once again repurposed a variety of
used record sleeves that previously housed albums that were -
depending on your perspective - either loved to death or immorally
abused. The choice to reuse these covers was an aesthetic one, and we
took inspiration from similar methods employed by Sun Ra, Pere Ubu,
RRR Records, and our beloved Upsidedown Cross.

Each individual record jacket has been hand painted by the renowned
Dean Styers, making every copy of Ruin Theory unique. While corner
bumps, creases, dents, split seams, and/or promo cuts or punches may
be present, this ensures that no two copies of Ruin Theory are alike
and are one of a kind collector’s items.
Please note that if you are dissatisfied with your Ruin Theory album
cover, you can, to paraphrase John Lydon, remove the records from
the sleeve provided and put them into your own exclusively designed
jacket (which we hope you will share photos of with us). We believe
you will find that your discarded Ruin Theory sleeve is quite suitable
for framing.

We’d like to thank Reed at In Your Ear! and Brian at Want List
Records for their generosity and assistance in sourcing the covers we
utilized.
